The defending World Champion SF Bay Bombers will return to Sacramento for the first time in 25 years! The team and pro Roller Derby has once again become a smash hit! The American Roller Skating Derby (ARSD), the league the Bombers skate in, has recently been featured in major shows such as Seinfeld's "The Marriage Ref" which airs on NBC and TLC's "The Ultimate Cake Off". Newly signed Bombers woman's captain, Patsy Delgado and her husband appeared in "The Marriage Ref" episode.
Bombers' GM, Jim Fitzpatrick, stated, "Returning to the Memorial Auditorium has been a dream of mine. Sacramento was a huge hot spot for Roller Derby in "the day" with some of the best fans you could ever skate for. Now that we're back and attracting huge crowds in SF and elsewhere, we're expecting a sell out on Sept 11th! That date strikes a lot of emotion in people and we intend to give our all that night. After all, we're fortunate enough to live in the best country in the world!"
A name familiar to old time Sacramento Roller Derby fans, Frank Apodaca, is back at the helm as the Bombers player coach and looking forward to battling his long time rival, the Red Devils dangerous player coach, "Wild Man" Dave Marez.. Marez grew up in Sacramento watching the Bombers skate at the Memorial Auditorium, later making the team and becoming a top jammer in the league. Over the years he's travelled as far as Tokyo, Japan, skating the banked track sport. One of the highlights of his long career was skating in Madison Square Gardens. He and Red Devils' GM, Mizzz Georgia Hase have been very vocal in their claims the Red Devils will easily defeat the defending champion Bombers on Sept 11th. Rumor has it they're still bitter about their nail bitting loss last Nov in the final round of the World Championships, held at the Cow Palace.
* New skaters, fresh out of the Roller Derby boot camp have been signed by both teams!
* Roller Derby legend Delores Tucker will be on hand signing autographs!
